    Terrence R. Bishop, Ph.D.

    Dr. Bishop is an Associate Professor of Management at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.  In addition to his Ph.D. in Business Administration (University of Iowa), he also earned a M.S. degree in M.S. in Personnel and Industrial Relations (Northern Illinois University) and a B.S. in Operations Management (Missouri State University).

    Dr. Bishop teaches courses in human resource management, general management, business ethics, quality management, and strategic planning.   He has received numerous awards for his teaching, including NIU’s Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award and the IDEAL Excellence in Teaching Award.  Terry has also been a member of the College’s Ethics Task force – a group charged with identifying ways to integrate ethics into the undergraduate business curriculum.  The Ethics Task Force and its BELIEF Initiative has been recognized as a model innovative program by the AACSB, the accrediting body for the NIU’s College of Business.  NIU’s College of Business was recently ranked second in ethics education in the Business Week rankings of U.S. business schools.

    He has written numerous articles on such topics as human resource management strategies and practice, recruitment issues, labor law, quality management, business education, and applications of ethics to business.  Bishop has served numerous organizations as a trainer and consultant, including Metropolitan Life Insurance, Discover Financial Services, UBS, Allstate, Hewlett-Packard, Safety-Kleen, Sears, the Government of Egypt, Barber-Colman, W. W. Grainger, TAP Pharmaceutical, Swedish-American Hospital, Rockford Memorial Hospital, Ideal Industries, Delnor Hospital, and Kishwaukee Community Hospital.  He has been a speaker at conferences for a variety of professional groups and trade associations.  He is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Academy of Management.  He is also the advisor to NIU’s student chapter of SHRM and was recognized in 2000 as the Faculty Advisor of the Year by the national organization.
