    •Neil Dishman and Jason Selvey,  Attorneys at Law, Jackson Lewis LLP, Chicago - presenting the traps for employers to avoid within recent HR legislation and trends in litigation
     
    With the threat of legislation at the federal, state and local levels looming over business today, the SHRM Chapters of IL Fox Valley, Stateline, and Northwest HR Council bring together key players in legislative advocacy and lobbyists at the State and Federal level for insight and perspective on the legislative landscape surrounding human resources.
     

    Major topics to be covered (i.e., the trends and traps of which employers should currently be aware):

    • The interaction between FMLA leave and “leave as a reasonable accommodation” under the ADA
    • Problems with “maximum leave” policies
    • Common disputes over exempt/non-exempt classifications
    • Misclassification of “independent contractors”
    • Misclassification of unpaid “interns” or “volunteers”
    • Criminal background and credit checks – a maze of laws to comply with and an enforcement priority for the EEOC
    • The reinvigorated, and hyper-aggressive, National Labor Relations Board
