November 20, 2014
Opening Remarks:
Lisa called the meeting to order @ 11:44
Lisa had all attendees introduce themselves & welcomed any visitors
Board Reports:
Treasurer – Dave – any member who would like to review the chapter’s budget may contact Dave for budget spreadsheet
Website – Judy – The SHRM Certified Preferred Provider Seal has been added to the website
Community Outreach - Sandy – working with ECC on a career fair for 2015
Legislative Update – Sara Z. – Ban the box starts 1/1/15 (criminal charges on application), changes due to new Governor in IL; possible replacing the entire IDES, Massachusetts passed a bill for mandatory sick leave, Illinois minimum wage referendum passed, Obama decision tonight on immigration possible executive order which could lead to mandatory e-verify after making 5 million people legal.
Programs – Crystal – Presenter for the January meeting will be Sara Zorich with a legislative update

Programs – Crystal – November meeting will be on New Healthcare Regulations for 2015
Diversity – Susan Jayne – Holly LaVine will be working with her in 2015. They are looking for diversity topics for 2015
Membership – The group will be having a membership drive through National SHRM in November
Treasurer – Dave – presented job description on treasurer’s duties

Lisa called the meeting to order @ 11:45
Lisa had all new members introduce themselves
Board Reports:
Membership – Yvonne we have 2 or 3 new members. Current membership @ 52
Community Outreach – Sandy – no updates to report
Outreach – Sandy is working with local colleges on student members
Programs – Pam no meeting August due to state conference (encouraged all members to attend state conference). September meeting presentation is the Bermuda Triangle of Leave Requests
Sandy – discussed the duties of Community Outreach. Current project is mentoring college students. Previous project was Poise for Success.
Shape– Lisa presented on the reason for SHAPE. It is required to be an affiliate of National SHRM. Aligns our chapters goals and initiatives with National SHRM.
Board Members for 2015 – Lisa announced that on the table there were applications for members to run for the chapter board in 2015

Opening Remarks - Welcome and Call to order (11:30 am)

- Committee Updates
- Dave -Treasurer – money in the account; moving checking from BMO Harris to Wintrust.
- Yvonne - Membership is 42. We have lots of guests today.
- Susan -Diversity – working on recruitment of veterans
- Judie - Website – looking for statements to post about how the chapter has helped you.
- Sandi - Community Outreach – still working on developing the student shadowing program – haven’t had a student commit yet but makes herself available to students who may want to contact her about this program.
- Legislation – skipped for now.
- Crystal - Programs – announced next two programs.
Discussion of Website/Member Benefits Role - Judie Childress spoke to the group, describing her function as Website/Member Benefits Director. She maintains the web site, updating meetings and events, program topics, member information, and testing dates for certification. This position also includes finding sponsors for meetings.

April 17, 2014
Opening Remarks - Lisa Grunkle welcomed everyone.
Board Reports
Yvonne – Membership report. Our current membership is 41. Four (4) guests were present at this meeting. We will have another membership drive next month.
Dave – Budget. No updates.
Judie – Website. The website has been updated.
Sandi – Community Outreach. Sandi met with Judson College and is now part of the board for HR topics.
Sara – Brief legal update.
Pam - Programs report.
- SHAPE is our guide on how we run our meetings. We are expected to create strategic goals and objectives.
- Next month: Our presenter, Laurie Hussman focuses on theater as a training vehicle. She will present a performance on harassment as defined by Title VII.
- In the coming months our programs will focus on labor law.
Yvonne spoke to the group, describing her function as Vice President of Membership. This position focuses on getting new members, using emai blasts, postcard mailings using lists provided by National.
Lisa reminded us of the National Conference in June.

Yvonne welcomed any guests, new members, and students to the meeting
Board Reports:
Dave – Treasurer - The group is in good financial standing. Yearend audit is complete.
Judy – Website - Website has been updated with our Silver Award
Sandy – Community Outreach - Working with ECC & Judson for community outreach. Signup sheets are on the table for participating in a mentoring program with the college students.
Sara – Legislation – a case is going to the Supreme Court dealing with employees being paid while changing their clothes. President Obama has sent an Executive Order to the Department of Labor in regards to the Supervisor Exemption.
Pam – Programs - Mike Wong and Sara Zorich will do a legislative update as the educational part of our April meeting.
Yvonne – Discussed President Elect position and the requirements and awards portion of SHAPE.

Karla – Membership is currently at 38 members. 35 renewals and 3 new members
Sara – Legislative – April meetings will be on two legislative topics; the expansion of the ADA (American Disabilities Act) and wage & hour issues
Sandy – Community Outreach – currently working with Elgin Community College and Judson on a student mentoring program
Dave – the group is in good financial standing. The yearend statement has been submitted to the accountant.
Pam – Programs – The March meeting topic will be the Future of the HR Profession by Martha Ramirez from National SHRM. April meeting topic will be Hot Legal Topics of 2014. June meeting topic will be 10 Things Every HR Leader Should Know About Labor Law.
Lisa – Discussion on duties of the President and discussion on the Shape Initiative

Dave – We ended 2013 with more money in our account than we started with
Crystal – Pam & Crystal are working on the presenter for the Feb meeting
Sandy – Working with local colleges on creating a mentoring program
Karla – 31 members out of 58 have renewed their membership for 2014
Carol – The testing dates are available for the certification in May/June. Carol will post the link to the NIU preparation classes on the website
The new officers for the 2014 Board were sworn in (Lisa Gruhkle, Karla Dobbeck, Crystal Gonzalez)
