General Meeting Minutes
November 19, 2015
Opening Remarks:
Yvonne called the meeting to order @ 11:45
Yvonne had all attendees introduce themselves & welcomed any visitors
Board Reports:
Treasurer – Dave stated that the group was in good financial standing & he has financial information available for members to view
Membership – Lisa reported that our membership is currently around 60
Programs – Lisa reported Kathleen & Sarah from Michael Best will be presenting in January on Hidden Liability with Temporary Employees, February will be Julie Bretz from the EEOC.
Website – Judy will update the website with 2016 programs
Community Outreach – Sandy recently attended a career fair @ West Aurora High School. Sandy also has phone holders for all attendees at today’s meeting.
Judson – Yvonne recently presented to HR students at Judson College. She encouraged students to join our group as student members. She also offered assistance with resume writing & interviewing.
Legislative – Title 7 Summary Judgements are changing and not as employer friendly as they were previously

John Roegner and Kevin Phillips from Savant Financial Management did a five minute presentation on the services offered from Savant at 11:30.

Programs –Katherine Caldwell in October and Sara Zorich will present a legal update in November
Strategic Planning Meeting – the Illinois Fox Valley SHRM strategic planning meeting for 2016 will be held on October 1, 2015 @ 8:00 a.m at Fox Trail Restaurant. All members are welcome to join the meeting.

Board Reports:
Treasurer – Dave stated that the group was in good financial standing and there is nothing new to report
Diversity – Susan Jayne gave a diversity update from Starbucks. Starbucks currently has a 100,000 hire initiative. Starbucks recently held a Chicago career fair with 4000 participants and 600 people were hired on the spot. Susan recommended the book Just Money by Bryan Stevenson. She also asked all members to look at the lclc.net website by Lauderdale Christian Legal center – their goal is to help the youth of our society.
Website – Judie reported that the website is updated with the general meeting presenters for the rest of 2015.
Community – Sandy, no update
Programs –Neal Dishman will present a legal update in September and Katherine Caldwell in October.
Illinois SHRM Conference –Yvonne reminded all members that the SHRM state conference is Sept 14 & 15. Bill Rancic is the keynote speaker
Strategic Planning Meeting – the Illinois Fox Valley SHRM strategic planning meeting for 2016 will be held on October 1, 2015 @ 8:00 a.m at Fox Trail Restaurant. All members are welcome to join the meeting.

Membership – Lisa reported that our membership is currently at 49 members and working on #50. Our membership #’s are eligible for Platinum level with National SHRM
Treasurer – Dave stated that the group was in good financial standing
Website – Judie reported that the website is updated with the general meeting presenters for the rest of 2015. The website now has a job board for members only
Community – Sandy, no update
Legislative – Sara, comment period for exempt status minimum salary requirement of $50,000.00 will end on September 4, 2015. Most likely this change will be effective in 2016. Next area for exempt status will be the duties clause.
Programs – Mike Engelhardt @ GCG will present in August and Neal Dishman will present a legal update in September

Carol Graham has announced that her retirement date is October 30, 2015
Treasurer – Dave stated that the group was in good financial standing and Dave has balance and budget sheets available for members
Membership – Lisa reported that our membership is currently at 48 members.
Website – Judie reported that the website is updated with the general meeting presenters for the rest of 2015
Community – Sandy has joined an advisory committee for Judson College. Judson is looking to add a Master’s program due to feedback from our meeting. Sandy is also working with ECC.

Board Reports:
Membership – Lisa reported that our membership is currently at 46 members. The goal for 2015 is 50 or more members. There will be a membership drive next month; there are cards available at the registration table to bring a guest for a free meeting.
Treasure – Yvonne stated that the group was in good financial standing with a current balance of over $3,000.00.
Legislation – Sarah reported that everything is pretty quiet right now. NLRB has issued its guidelines on what should & what shouldn’t be in your employee handbook.

Board Reports:
Membership – Lisa reported that our membership is currently at 41 members
Website – Judie – NIU partnership information is now on the website. All meeting minutes are also posted and a list of upcoming programs will be posted soon.
Community Outreach - Sandy – Sandy & other volunteers attended the ECC Career Exploration Fair. They gave good advice to students interested in the HR Field. 115 Students & 65 faculty attended the career fair. Students gave high remarks for the career fair.
Programs – Crystal – Presenter for April will be Jason Kotecky speaking on Adulitis. Martha Ramirez from SHRM will be speaking in May.
Diversity – Susan Jayne – Starbucks President just gave a 3 hour presentation and an entire hour of the presentation was devoted to race relations. Starbucks also has an interesting article in USA today about diversity.
Yvonne reminded members about the SHRM conference in June & to make sure they do the tutorial to complete their SHRM certification.
Yvonne explained and passed out sign-up sheets for the Volunteer Point System

Website – Judy – Website is up to date with all SHRM certification and preferred program provider information
Community Outreach - Sandy – working with ECC on a career fair where she will be explaining the HR role in companies. Sandy also discussed the new certification program through SHRM
Legislative Update – Sara Z. – Immigration is currently on hold. A lot of information will follow on immigration once a decision is made.
Programs – Crystal – Presenter for April will be Lauren Soderstrum on HR Motivation.
Diversity – Susan Jayne – Susan will be putting together a diversity presentation for our group. She is also willing to do web conferences with our members on diversity.

Opening Remarks - Welcome and Call to order (11:30 am)
Business Meeting (11:45)
- Induction of new officers President, Yvonne Graff; Past President, Lisa Gruhlke; President Elect, Crystal Gonzalez; and Legislative Liaison, Sara Zorich. Presentation of gift to Past President Lisa Gruhlke.
- Committee Updates
- Carol Graham – HRCI – Nothing at this time.
- Sandi - Community Outreach – IFVSHRM is a preferred provider partnered with NIU, which enables us to get discounts on continuing education. There are interns looking for spots. Let Sandi know if you would be able to accommodate an intern.
Sandi thanked the new caterers for the delicious lunch.
- Dave -Finance – Balance sheet and budget are available. The bank change is complete.
- Sara Zorich - Legislative update – House is putting forth a bill regarding immigration. New governor in place. Only one general counsel remains. Expect to see new faces.
- Crystal - Programs – announced next program.
