    Meeting Minutes
    Thursday, September 19, 2019
    Call to Order 11:15 am –1:00 pm

     

    1. Welcome and Call to order (11:30 am)
      President Gruhlke called the meeting to order at 11:34 a.m. She gave a brief welcoming.
    2. Introductions (11:35)
      Brief introductions were made.
    3. Business Meeting (11:45)
      1. Callie Zipple, our SHRM Field Services Director, passed away last week.
      2. ILSHRM Annual Conference – September 22nd – September 24th at Drury Lane in Oak Brook.
    4. SHRM has a new certificate program – Veterans at Work through the SHRM Foundation.  This is a free online program with 10 hours of PDCs.  Let Kristen or Lisa know if you have completed the program.
    5. Committee Updates
      1. Treasurer – Sarah – in good standing.
      2. Membership – Sue – 69 members and reminder of 10/30 members only event.
      3. Website – Warren – Up to date.  Reminder to complete survey.
      4. Community Outreach – Carmen discussed the volunteer event that was on 9/11.
      5. Programs – Judie gave and update of the upcoming meetings.
    6. Board of Director Elections
    7. Introduction of Speaker: Scott Miller, DOL – “Affordable Care Act Compliance Under ERISA.”

    August 15, 2019

     

    Welcome and Call to Order (11:30 am)
    President Gruhlke called the meeting to order at 11:38 a.m. She gave a brief welcoming.

    2. Introductions (11:35) Brief introductions were made.

    3. Business Meeting (11:45)
    a. ILSHRM Annual Conference – September 22nd – 24th at Drury Lane in Oak Brook President Gruhlke gave a brief description of the event. It’s preapproved for 12 PDCs for SHRM and HRCI certification. More information can be found on the ILSHRM website.
    b. SHRM Certificate – Veterans at Work President Gruhlke gave a brief description of the new certification program, which is funded through the SHRM Foundation. More information can be found on the SHRM website. Members are encouraged to take the class for certification. They will earn 10 PDCs.
    c. Board of Director Elections for 2020 President Gruhlke gave a brief overview that the candidates for the Board of Directors is set for 2020. Election will be had at the September 2019 meeting.

    Committee Updates Updates 

    Treasurer Ms. Sester mentioned there was $21,000 in the account.

    Membership Ms. Oswalt said membership was up to 65. In addition she mentioned

    Community Outreach Ms. Gruhkle mentioned that the U-46 Educational Pathways ATeam initiative was to be held on September 11th at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering or taking part, please contact Kristen or Lisa for more information.

    Legislation Mr. Wong gave a brief update on legal updates. SB75, an amendment to the Illinois Equal Pay Act was signed into law. Ensure your organization is ready to comply.

    Programs Ms. Van Bogart gave a brief update regarding programs. A staff person from the Department of Labor was going to present on staying compliant with ACA and ERISSA. John Newton was to present in October on cannabis legalization.

    Introduction of Speaker (Noon) – Mike Mastroianni. Mr. Mastroianni presented on his topic, Jerks At Work. Meeting ended at 1:00 p.m.

    Mr. Krup stated that the website is up to date.

    Michael Wong stated that there are harassment arbitration bills waiting to pass.

    Community Outreach
    Workforce Readiness initiatives with U-46 Educational Pathways Team and Carmen Lainez.

    Received annual financial audit and it all looks good.

    Ms. Hovious said membership was up to 53.

    Mr. Krup stated that the website is up to date including new sponsorship.

    Ms. Childress gave an update on the upcoming programs for 2019, which are on the website. April 18th meeting is on Workplace Violence.  May 9th meeting is How to Win Unemployment Hearings.

    Introduction of Speaker (Noon) – Dr. John Koehler, Physicians Immediate Care
    Dr. Koehler presented on his topic. Meeting ended at 1:10 p.m.

    Legislative update given after the meeting. Mr. Wong described some initiatives of the Pritzker administration including the $15 minimum wage.

    Ms. Childress gave an update on the upcoming programs for 2019, which are on the website. March will be workers compensation topic.

    Mr. Kurschat presented on his topic. Meeting ended at 1:00 p.m.

    Installation of New Officers

    President Gruhlke asked the following persons to stand at the front of the room so she could administer the oath for new Board Officers. The oath was said and all officers were sworn in.
