JASON A. SELVEY is an associate in the Chicago, Illinois office of Jackson Lewis LLP.
With an exclusive focus on representing management in workplace law and related litigation, Mr. Selvey defends employers before federal and state courts and administrative agencies throughout the Midwest. His practice covers a wide range of employment counseling and litigation, including issues such as: discrimination and harassment based on race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin and disability; disability accommodation; retaliation, including retaliatory discharge; Fair Credit Reporting Act compliance; and defamation in the business context.
Mr. Selvey’s experience with Fair Credit Reporting Act compliance and associated litigation is particularly noteworthy. He was on a small team that represented two clients in a consolidated nationwide class action, which had well over 100,000 putative class members. Mr. Selvey also regularly counsels clients regarding the Act’s requirements prior to and after their acquisition of covered consumer reports.
Mr. Selvey also has significant trial experience. In a January 2012 federal court trial, he defended a municipality against claims of religious and national origin harassment and retaliation by a current employee. Acting as second chair, Mr. Selvey conducted several direct and cross examinations of witnesses.
Mr. Selvey co-presented a September 2011 program entitled “Getting Off On the Right Foot: How to Vet Job Applicants Without Breaking the Law.” In addition, Mr. Selvey was a contributing author to the 18th Annual ERISA Litigation Conference Course Handbook and assisted in updating multiple chapters of Testimonial Privileges.
Mr. Selvey was named to the 2011 annual list of “Rising Stars” by Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Selvey is admitted to practice in Illinois, and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He is also admitted to practice in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals
Mr. Selvey earned his B.A. in political science from Northwestern University in 2002. He earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2005, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and received the Rickert Award for Excellence in Academic Achievement./sites/illinoisfoxvalley.shrm.org/files/Feb Invite final.ppt
