What Fox Valley SHRM means to me:  I fell into HR while living in Kentucky.  That first HR position developed from a temp position I took when my husband and I first moved to Kentucky.  Over the next three and a half years, I continued to be a 1 person HR department but went from doing so for one company to doing so for four companies with overlapping ownership.  The SHRM chapter in Lexington helped me learn the ropes.  I struggled for the first few years in Illinois to find a chapter that provided the support I wanted. As the sole HR person in my position at Orchard Road Animal Hospital, I often felt that I was practicing alone - a dangerous position to be in when you have HR responsibilities!  I joined the Fox Valley SHRM chapter initially because it fit my needs at the time.  The meetings were certified for HRCI credits (always a plus!) and were held on a day that worked with my work schedule. From my first meeting, I felt that I wasn't alone and that I could call on fellow chapter members when the need arose.  I view the chapter as my safe haven to ask questions and get suggestions on handling the various HR needs of my organization.  As VP of Programs, I strive to continue to find the same quality speakers that I experienced as a member.
