What Fox Valley SHRM means to me:  As you can see from my education, HR wasn’t my planned career path.   As a trained economist, when I see individuals who are underutilized, I see a resource being wasted.  My interest in HR developed out of that training to see people as resources and from my own experiences in the working world. I felt that HR departments could help an organization and its people succeed.  I first joined SHRM and became a local chapter member when I was living in Lexington, KY.  After my husband and I moved to Illinois it took me awhile to find a chapter that was right for me. I joined the Fox Valley SHRM chapter initially because the meeting schedule worked with my work schedule and the meetings were certified for HRCI credits (always a plus!). From the first meeting I attended, I felt that I had found the right place for me.  This chapter is more than just a wonderful source of up to date HR knowledge – it’s a group of HR professionals who support one another and want to share their HR knowledge with one another.

I joined Fox Valley SHRM in August 2020 and was enthused to share my experiences and feedback on the monthly webinars; so much that I expressed interest in becoming a Board member and was recruited by the Board for the Social Media Committee in early 2021!  As a Social Media Committee Chair Member I enjoy volunteering and learning new ways to engage with members and provide a source for relevant HR information, legal updates, and engagement with the community.
